Some books are difficult to file. This is one of them — and it means that as a compliment. The Unreturned Index sits in the space between portal fantasy and literary dark fantasy. It has a LitRPG System — Wanderer Class, integration percentage, level notifications — but uses those mechanics the way a mystery novel uses a locked room.
