Solar Storm: Season 1

This is a box set comprised of the first season of Solar Storm (5 episodes, over 400 pages of post-apocalyptic mayhem), about a family from Illinois that faces a global catastrophe when a Coronal Mass Ejection hits the earth and knocks out the power grid for the entire planet. Jay, a small town librarian, is at home when everything falls apart. His wife, Kate, is an airline pilot on a flight to Hawaii and must not only survive the flight, but figure out how to get home in a world without electricity. Leah, Jay's daughter, is trapped at college and sees firsthand what the collapse of society looks like. Each of these people face questions of survival and handle the crisis in different ways. The story is told from the point of view of average people--some more or less prepared than others--not a super prepper. It's written this way because not everyone is a former Navy SEAL. The sun can strike us at any moment with a CME powerful enough to send mankind back to the 1800s--it's not a matter of if, but when.
