Midnight's Balance

My name is John Smith. Obviously, not my real name, but no one can ever pronounce that anyway. I was given one job on Earth: guard the balance between the magical and non-magical. Sounds simple, right? It isn’t a rough gig until some government twit, calling himself The Witch’s Hammer, decides to make a name for himself. Now my familiars are dead. Aside from the untrained twenty-something hipster living in my attic. My clock reads midnight...the balance is lost. I had one job. They had one instruction. Now it’s too late and the humans are going to learn why they should have forgotten about me.
