Raiden Thorn has been free for four weeks, living under a borrowed name with only six years of memories. When a mining station executive labels him indigent, he is conscripted into the Navy and assigned to the patrol ship Narwhal just as tensions with the Scylding reach a breaking point. Soon strange patterns begin appearing in the ship’s sensor data, patterns no one else notices. As systems malfunction and contact with command is lost, an enemy cruiser closes in. Whatever the researchers tried to erase from Raiden’s mind may be the only warning before the Confederated Worlds walk blind into war.
